Arrived at Miramar Beach (Destin, FL) on Saturday. Sunday morning I was out at 6 am and found a few subjects to shoot. Headed to the beach now for the remainder of the day. I will post each day here on the blog.
Day 2: Did not go shooting this morning as it was thundering and lightening. Later around noon it cleared and we went to the beach. While we were sitting on the beach there were too young girls floating on boogie boards and they drifted out way too far...they were scared and screaming and their mother was waving her arms for someone to help...there were a lot of people on the beach and no one who was in their area of the beach responded. Myself, my son Chris and another man ran in and swam out to help them in some pretty rough water. We got to them fairly quickly and they were very scared and crying, they were tired and getting to the point where they could barely hang on to their boogie boards. We escorted them to safety and all ended well. Here are a couple of beach pics...
Day 3: Went shooting this morning around 5:45 a.m., it was a pretty good morning. Shot several great blue heron, a juvenile green heron and it's parent, osprey, a bald eagle, yellow crowned night heron and a snowy egret. Got home around 10 and now it's getting ready to storm again, guess the afternoon will be spent watching a movie or reading. Here's this mornings pics...

So day 4 of shooting was very productive. On Wednesday evening Linda and I had dinner at Maguire's Irish Pub (at the recommendation of Dennis Loughmiller) and while eating on the outside covered patio I observed at least 8 great blue heron flying past and landing in a large tree further down the beach. So this morning I tracked down the large tree and to my delight it was a heron rookery. There were at least 15 great blues flying in and out while I was there and there were many roosting in trees nearby. After leaving the rookery I went to Okaloosa Island and walked the beach where I found more great blue heron, a little blue heron, the black skimmer and a wading bird that I cannot identify. I also was able so shoot some osprey and the bald eagle sitting on the same pole as the other day.
